Concord Covered Bridge Temporarily Closed for Stabilization

2/15/2017

The Concord Covered Bridge will be temporarily closed for stabilization. Built in 1872, it is the only covered bridge still in use on a public highway in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The bridge was hit by a vehicle last October and has been leaning since. The Cobb DOT has developed a plan to construct a floating steel frame inside the bridge to correct the leaning and strengthen the bridge. The historic wooden bridge will not be directly attached to the floating steel frame, allowing the wooden bridge to expand and contract as needed. The steel frame will not be visible from the exterior of the bridge, and will be tucked behind original timber joists inside the bridge where possible. The steel frame will also be painted to match the color of the wood. Cobb Landmarks supports the preservation of this historic treasure and understands that these additions must be made in order for the bridge to survive and continue serving drivers. We will monitor the construction at the bridge and will keep our members updated.

1st let me congratulate the author for writing a great post! Well, this is definitely a satire! But it is true that wild animals are consuming food-they are wasting man’s resourses. But by how much percent? Hardly1-4% of animals. If we kill them then the balance of ecosystem would be damaged. Then it would have far reaching consequences.

It’s important to preserve the Concord Covered Bridge, so the closure for stabilization makes sense. Hope the repairs go smoothly. Any idea how long the closure will last? Looking forward to its reopening!
