Meeting 5 (May 2, 2026): Looking Back & Moving Forward
Meeting 1 (January 3, 2026): Getting Started
- Welcome & Introductions: We’ll start by getting to know each other, along with our facilitators.
- The Book: We’ll introduce the cookbook and provide some historical context.
- Recipe Selection: Participants will randomly select a recipe to prepare for the next meeting.
Meeting 2 (February 7, 2026): Black History Month
- Recipe Showcase: Those who wish to can share their experience with their recipe.
- Discussion: Our conversation will focus on the influence of Black culture on Southern foodways. We will select new recipes for the following month’s meeting.
Meeting 3 (March 7, 2026): Women’s History Month
- Recipe Showcase: Share your experience preparing the recipe with the group.
- Discussion: The conversation will center on the roles of women in the South. We’ll pick new recipes for the April meeting.
Meeting 4 (April 4, 2026): National Garden Month
- Recipe Showcase: Share any changes or challenges you encountered while making your recipe.
- Discussion: We will talk about how the availability of crops has influenced Southern food. This is our last recipe selection!
Meeting 5 (May 2, 2026): Looking Back & Moving Forward
- Recipe Showcase: The last opportunity to share your recipe experience.
- Discussion: We will compare the recipes in the book to modern cooking and reflect on how this experience may have changed our opinions on Southern foodways.
