Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society’s Traveling Exhibit is a teacher’s dream, delivered to your classroom or media center by a costumed docent at a convenient time scheduled by you. Arriving with a Radio Flyer wagon (circa 1950) and chock full of artifacts from two significant historical times, Cobb Landmarks’ Traveling Exhibit – It’s Time for Dinner - comes right to your school so that your students can get a taste of local history though real hands-on experiences.
Thematically designed around the southern family kitchen, the Traveling Trunk program brings history to life for your students. Created by teachers for teachers, the Traveling Trunk offers teachers a full unit of lesson plans that address the new Georgia Standards across a wide array of disciplines.
With a backdrop of Exhibit boards, the docent offers a 30-minute presentation to orient the students. She invites your students to contrast and compare the detached southern kitchen of pre-Civil War Georgia with that same kitchen, now attached to the house, in the classic era home of the 1950s.

Whether listening to the music of the two eras, searching though the dinner table settings and kitchen artifacts for those that have stayed the same, or sampling the children’s games of the time, your students will have a history lesson full of fun and facts. Menus and shopping lists for staples offer teachers opportunities for both economics and math lessons. Floor plans and photographs extend those lessons as far as the teacher wants to take them. Prospects abound for comparison/contrast opportunities for the students.
For a full week the Traveling Trunk remains for your students to experience and share. In a nutshell, it’s a program delivered to your doorstep which has been especially developed to instill in your students an appreciation for history and home economics while they learn about Georgia’s rich heritage.
